Week Starting 23rd August

The wearing of face coverings will still be in place in school when we return. A letter with detailed reasoning will be sent soon.
Cases and deaths are rising before schools even return – is this because of reopening of pubs/clubs/face coverings/holidays? We don’t yet know – but we will know more once we start the new term. Ultimately this needs to be a driving factor in our decision-making. The Local Authority is supporting Government guidance and supporting the use of them as a protection factor. At the start of this pandemic, we made the decision to wear face coverings well before those nationally and certainly before any local school and this was a right move to make – whilst other schools had to train their students to start wearing them we didn’t have to and we can’t take those efforts away just yet.

Arrangements for Next Week

As you will may already know, students at Newsome Academy will benefit from a multi-million pound refurbishment of the whole school. This huge project started over the summer holidays and will continue until July 2022. because of this there is a slightly later start time for students.

As we communicated in June (click here) we have had to alter the start dates for students who physically return to school. This is because a large part of the school will still be having substantial building work completed whilst builders move from working on the summer phase and moving into the next phase of construction.

Over the summer there has also been another instruction that schools must conduct testing as students start back which has also meant some additional arrangements in terms of staggered start times.

We have put together a timetable to support families for the week starting Monday 6th September. Please note that there is still an allocated INSET session on Monday 6th September. Thereafter, students will be able to follow our suggested schedule which will be sent to families soon.
