Newsome Academy are incredibly proud of our year-on-year performance and our exceptional performance in English and Maths and are amongst the top performing in Kirklees. We are also proud of being one of the highest attended secondary schools in Kirklees.

KS4 Destinations for 2025 Leavers

  • 99.29 % of leavers are meeting the duty – 139 out of 140 students progressed into learning or training. This is an increase from 98.62% in 2024 and is higher than the 2025 Kirklees figure of 96%.
  • 97.14% (136/140) have progressed onto full-time education and 2.14% (3/140) onto an apprenticeship. One leaver (0.71%) has moved away and is currently working not for reward with a view to moving into an apprenticeship soon. These figures are similar to 2024 when 98.62% of students chose full-time education.
  • Education Destinations by institution:
  • 67 at Kirklees College: 6 on T levels, 10 on Level 3 programmes, 26 on Level 2 programmes, 17 on Level 1 programmes and 8 on Entry Level programmes.
  • 29 at Huddersfield New College: 19 on A levels and 10 on Level 3 programmes.
  • 25 at Greenhead College: A levels.
  • 3 at LLS Sports College: Level 3 programme.
  • 2 at Calderdale College: Level 2 programme.
  • 1 at Batley Girls High School: A levels.
  • 1 at Brighouse High School: Level 3 programme.
  • 1 at CAPA College: Level 3 programme.
  • 1 at Learning Curve Hair & Beauty Academy: Level 2 programme.
  • 1 at Leeds City College: Level 2 programme.
  • 4 in education out of area
  • 1 in education out of England

Most students have chosen to study in Huddersfield, and a smaller number of students have chosen colleges in neighbouring authorities including Leeds, Calderdale and Wakefield. Some students have moved out of the Huddersfield area and are attending other colleges.
