Admissions Process

Admissions to Newsome Academy are managed by Kirklees Council, and all parents and carers must apply through the council’s admissions process.

Full details about how to apply for a secondary school place can be found via the Kirklees Council website.

Applications for entry into Year 7 for the 2026/2027 academic year must be submitted by 31 October 2025.

We encourage families to ensure applications are completed on time to avoid disappointment. If you require any additional support or guidance, our school office will be happy to help.

Transitions

We understand that moving to secondary school is a big and exciting step. At Newsome Academy, we work closely with students, families and primary schools to ensure every child feels confident, supported and ready to start their journey with us.

Our transition programme includes:

  • Strong links with feeder primary schools to share key information and support individual needs

  • Transition visits and activities, allowing students to familiarise themselves with the school, staff and routines

  • Additional transition support for students who may need extra reassurance or guidance, including those with SEND or additional needs

  • Clear communication with parents and carers throughout the transition process

  • A carefully planned induction period at the start of Year 7 to help students settle quickly and feel part of the school community

Our aim is to ensure that every student makes a smooth, positive start at Newsome Academy and feels safe, welcomed and excited about the next stage of their education.
