Uniform Expectations
At Newsome Academy, we recognise and value students as individuals, and we encourage them to express their identity through their character, achievements and contributions to school life. At the same time, our uniform reflects our high expectations, promotes equality and helps create a calm, purposeful learning environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
All students are expected to follow the uniform policy at all times.
Blazers and jumpers must display the Academy logo and be purchased from an official supplier.
A blazer and/or jumper must be worn in corridors and public areas at all times. In classrooms or subject areas, blazers may be removed and placed on the back of a chair or on a hook.
The allocated Academy tie must be worn at all times with a plain white Academy shirt or blouse (polo shirts are not permitted unless by prior arrangement). Ties may be removed for physical activity or when instructed by the Academy during adverse weather.
Outdoor coats and rain jackets must be removed on entry to the Academy building.
Pin badges are not permitted, with the exception of Academy reward badges, SSLT subgroup badges, Voice 21, Anti-Bullying and Duke of Edinburgh badges.
Religious and cultural headwear is welcomed and respected. It must be black, professional in appearance, not obscure the student’s face and must not interfere with the Academy badge or tie.
Fashion accessories such as necklaces, large belts, bangles, bracelets, hats, caps and scarves must not be visible while in the Academy.
Earrings and rings may be worn but must be modest and safe for daily activities.
Nails must be of a length suitable for carrying out daily activities safely.
Smart black trousers must be worn. Jeans, leggings, tracksuit bottoms, shorts and culottes are not permitted.
Footwear must be smart and completely black (shoes, pumps or trainers). Footwear with modifications or visible air bubbles is not allowed. Final decisions will be at the discretion of the Pastoral Team.
All uniform items must be clearly labelled with the student’s name.
Non-Compliance
Students who do not meet uniform expectations will receive a sanction and may be loaned the correct uniform for the day. Any loss or damage to loaned items will be charged to parents/carers via ParentPay.

We use Uniform Exchange for second hand uniform. https://www.uniform-exchange.org/
Uniform Exchange was set up as a community project in 2011 to make sure every child in Kirklees could have a free school uniform if they needed it. That need has never been greater than it is now.
The cost-of-living crisis means many families are struggling just to eat and keep warm so new school uniform is simply unaffordable yet countless tonnes of it is still being thrown into landfill in Kirklees every year.
We need to all make a positive impact on the environment so please do your bit by simply giving your old school uniform to us.
Uniform Equity and Support
At Newsome Academy, we believe that uniform should never be a barrier to learning. We are proud to provide a free first full uniform (tie, blazer or jumper and pe kit) for every student, ensuring that expectations are fair, consistent and equitable for all.
In addition, we hold a wide range of spare uniform items on site, including:
trousers
shoes
jumpers
blazers
ties
These are available to support any student who arrives at school without the correct uniform. Our approach is always supportive and solution-focused — we want students learning, feeling confident and ready for the day, not worried about uniform.
This commitment reflects our core belief that every child deserves dignity, belonging and equal access to education, every single day.
We also ask that anyone leaving the school donates their uniform to Uniform Exchange or directly to ourselves so that it can be reused.
