Welcome to our School
Newsome Academy is a successful secondary school, set in fabulous countryside in south Huddersfield. We have over 700 students and around 100 awesome teaching and support staff. We are very unique in the fact that we also have two specialist provisions – Hearing Impaired and Physically Impaired. These provisions allow students to be in mainstream lessons whilst getting the specialist support, they need.
Opening Times

Headteacher’s Introduction
Since joining Newsome Academy in April 2017, I have experienced first-hand the special family feel our school offers and the energy from both students and staff has been a pleasure to see.
Newsome Academy has seen a significant and exciting change over the past few years – we have celebrated record-breaking results for the past few years. We are also the only secondary school in Kirklees that is celebrating a student securing a Scholarship at Eton College in 2022.
I strongly welcome visitors to visit us and see how being part of our school will be a momentous positive decision for both your child’s future career. Join us on our journey to becoming a centre of excellence. We hold our Vision, Mission and Values close to our heart and this can be seen in the document below.

Reading buddies from Year 9 this week with Yr 4 students from NJU - great work experience! 🤩
Travel safely to school this morning - students start at 10:10am 🥰
Not everyone understands that schools have staff that don’t live in the locality and travel long distances and are quick to pass their judgements. Running an organisation involves many people and not just one factor. Decisive action supports everyone in a community.
Due to the snow forecast this evening and through the night, there will be a delayed start to school on Tuesday to allow for staff to safely travel their long distances & to ensure reduced disruption. Students are to arrive at 10:10.
